The New Log Cabin Saloon

Standing at 155 West Main Street, this handsome brick commercial building has been a significant part of Lehi history for over a century. Constructed in 1903, it has housed a diverse collection of businesses, each reflecting the growth and character of Main Street in this historic town.

One of its most colorful chapters began in 1906, during a spirited rivalry between two of Lehi's saloon owners. Gus Slade, proprietor of the popular Senate Saloon, purchased this building from beneath his competitor, Rockhill, who operated the Log Cabin Saloon across the street at 106 West Main Street. Slade moved the Senate Saloon into this location, seemingly aiming to drive his rival out of business. Instead, Rockhill simply relocated to Slade's former building across the street and proudly reopened as "The New Log Cabin Saloon." This move didn't settle the competition; it merely shifted it across Main Street.

Like many historic buildings in Lehi, 155 West Main continually reinvented itself as the community's needs evolved. Following the saloon era, it became Larsen's Meat Market, serving local families with fresh meats for many years. Later, the building transitioned into Jo's Fashions, a beloved beauty salon where generations of Lehi residents came for haircuts and lively conversation.

By the 1980s, this famous structure embraced the video age as Sounds Easy Video, Lehi's homegrown version of Blockbuster. For many local families, Friday nights meant visiting here to browse the latest movie releases before heading home with popcorn and a stack of VHS tapes. It wasn't just a video store; it was a cherished place where memorable moments were created.

Today, this building stands as one of the enduring landmarks of Main Street. Its brick walls have witnessed everything from the lively days of frontier saloons to neighborhood meat markets, beauty shops, and the excitement of the home-video era. Every business that occupied these storied storefronts became part of the rich tapestry of Lehi history, reminding us that the legacy of a town is not only found in its historic buildings but also in the people who gathered, worked, laughed, and forged a community within them.
